How to choose a tuition centre in Mysuru: 7 questions to ask
Seven questions to ask any tuition centre before you join, and what a good answer sounds like.

The simplest way to choose a tuition centre in Mysuru is to visit two or three, ask each one the same seven questions, and let your child sit in on a class before you pay. A good centre answers every question plainly and puts the important things, like fees and refunds, in writing. Below are the questions, what a good answer sounds like, and a few promises that should make you careful.
1. Who will actually teach my child?
Ask for the names of the teachers, their qualifications, which subjects each one takes, and how long they have taught your child’s syllabus. Ask whether teachers change often during the year.
A good answer names real people you can meet. If the centre can’t tell you who will teach, or the teacher changes every few weeks, your child will spend time getting used to new faces instead of learning.
At STC, you can meet the teachers before you join. WhatsApp us to book a time, Monday to Friday, 3:30 to 4:30 pm.
2. How many students are in each batch?
There is no perfect number. A small group gives each child more attention, while a larger batch can work well if the teacher has a clear way to clear doubts and check every child’s work.
So ask two things: how many students sit in one batch, and how a quiet child gets their doubts answered. At STC, batches have 30 to 40 students. Every student also gets one-to-one time with a mentor every day, outside regular class time, so no doubt has to wait.
3. Does the centre teach my child’s syllabus and class?
CBSE and Karnataka STATE syllabus schools use different textbooks and exam patterns. Check that the centre teaches from your child’s own textbooks and follows the order of your school’s portions, so that tuition helps before each unit test rather than running ahead or behind.
Ask which subjects are covered for your child’s class, and whether there are separate batches for CBSE and STATE students. You can see how STC covers both on our CBSE and STATE syllabus pages.
4. How will I know whether my child is improving?
You should not have to wait for the school report card to find out. Ask how often the centre tests students, whether you will see the marks, and how often you can talk to a teacher.
A good centre has a fixed routine. At STC, parents get a monthly progress report and are invited to parent-teacher meetings, and a parents’ WhatsApp group shares test dates, holidays and batch changes. You can read more in our Parents Corner.
| Ask about | A good answer sounds like |
|---|---|
| Tests | “Regular tests, and you see the marks.” |
| Reports | “A written report, so you don’t wait for the school report card.” |
| Meeting teachers | “Parent-teacher meetings, and a way to book a visit.” |
5. How are children treated when they make mistakes?
This question may matter most. Firm discipline is a good thing: children need clear rules and teachers who hold them to those rules. What matters is how a child is corrected. Correction should be fair and in proportion, and never involve hitting or humiliation, because a child who is shamed in front of the class stops asking questions.
Ask directly: how do teachers deal with a wrong answer, a missed homework or a child who talks in class? Then watch how the teacher responds to a wrong answer during the trial class. At STC, discipline is firm and fair: students are corrected when needed, but never hit or humiliated.
6. What does it cost, and what is included?
Ask for the full fee in writing before you pay, and check what it covers: subjects, study material, tests and any extra classes before exams. Ask how the fee is paid and what happens if your child has to stop midway.
At STC, fees depend on the class and subjects. We share them at a free counselling session. Half is paid at admission and the rest in instalments, and fees are not refunded unless STC cancels the classes. The full rules are on our Admissions page.
7. Can my child try a class first?
A trial class tells you more than any brochure. Your child will know within a class or two whether they can follow the teacher and feel comfortable asking a question.
Afterwards, ask your child three things. Did you understand the lesson? Could you ask a doubt? Would you like to go back? At STC, your child can attend two free trial classes, so they can decide with you.
Which promises should make you careful?
Be careful of any centre that promises a fixed percentage, a rank or “guaranteed” results. No teacher can promise what a child will score, because the child writes the exam.
Since 13 November 2024, guidelines from the Central Consumer Protection Authority say coaching centres must not advertise guaranteed high scores or selections, and need a student’s written consent before using their name or photo (Press Information Bureau). Those rules were written for advertising, but they are a useful test for any centre you visit.
Other warning signs:
- Pressure to pay the full year’s fee on the first visit.
- No clear answer about who teaches, or how many students are in a batch.
- Toppers’ photos and marks everywhere, but nothing about how weaker students are helped.
What should I check before I decide?
Take this list with you, and tick it off at each centre:
- I know who will teach my child.
- I know the batch size and how doubts are cleared.
- The centre teaches my child’s syllabus and textbooks.
- I know how often tests happen and how I will see the marks.
- I asked how children are treated when they make mistakes.
- I have the fee, payment plan and refund rule in writing.
- My child attended a trial class and wants to go back.
So, how do you choose a tuition centre in Mysuru?
Choosing a tuition centre is easier when you ask every centre the same questions and watch one class yourself. Look for named teachers, regular tests and reports, firm, fair discipline and clear fees, and walk away from guaranteed marks.
